Remember, Remember, the 5th of November Gunpowder, Treason and Plot…

    Dane Appleby saves the Day!

On Tuesday, Dane Appleby foiled Guy Fawkes’ (Miss Marsh) dastardly plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament (Langold Dyscarr Community School)! Guy led Year 2 on a secret mission around the building armed with gunpowder before being spotted by Dane. However, the children had enough time to build a bonfire, burn the guy and have some hot chocolate before returning to the classroom to write up their exciting adventure. WOW!

  • John Mann - Milk Monitor

    Tue 11 Feb 2014

    John Mann  -  Milk Monitor

    Milk Is Cool!

Langold Dyscarr Community School was delighted to welcome John Mann to our Special Mentions assembly to explain the Cool Milk Scheme.

Mr Mann explained the scheme to the children and also told us about how he became the School Milk Monitor, when he was at school, because he could not sing — instead of practising with the choir he delivered the milk! He also reminded the children just how healthy milk is and how important it is to drink your milk everyday. Mr Mann returned to his Milk Monitor role when, as part of the scheme, he was able to arrange for milk to be delivered to every child in the school.

We are sure that Mr Mann must have been very impressed with our ‘Special Mentions’ children and the 5 karate stars who earned their Red Belt, Holly Bierton, Isabelle Mill, Seth Wheeler, Samuel Salari and James McNamara.

What did you think of our brilliant listening skills in assembly Mr Mann?  Did   you spot our witches and wizards in the audience?

Mr Mann was later interviewed by our Year 6 reporters, Isabelle and Robert about his views of our school and his job.

  • Allan the Alien

    Tue 11 Feb 2014

Extra Terrestrial Communications with ‘Allan the Alien’!

Year 2 extend Langold Dyscarr’s ‘Hand of Friendship’ across space.

Year 2 have had a magical ‘out-of-this-world’ experience this week! Firstly they discovered that the evil Voldermort had stolen their Spell Book. However, their friendly alien pen-pal, Allan, has paid them a secret visit and is trying to help them.  In return Year 2 have tried to teach Allan how to make a sandwich.  Alexis  telephoned  him with the  instructions, using imperative verbs and time connectives, on how to make a sandwich.  The telephone line connection was remarkably clear! Allan said he would  go back to Zogg and follow the very clear instructions on how to make a sandwich.  However, he said he did not like coleslaw and would not include it in his sandwich.  Did you know aliens don’t like coleslaw?                                                                                                                             Year 2 have been so inspired to talk and write about their telephone call to Allan and are producing some fantastic work.  Watch this space for more news from ‘Allan the Alien’.

  • European Day of Languages

    Mon 10 Feb 2014

Our children were able to tour Europe and sample a variety of cultures and languages, including British Sign Language.  The activities inspired the use of many skills — language learning (listening, speaking and observing), problem solving, physical dexterity, team work, communication skills, artistic creativity, food sampling and evaluation, reporting back to peers and broadening cultural awareness. WOW! What a lot to pack into a day.  Thanks too, to Lisa, our cook, who served up a delicious Italian menu!                                                                                                                                                                     The children were split into mixed age groups and their behaviour was impeccable! We are so proud of all you achieved. Well done to everyone and thank you to all the staff who helped make the day so special and enjoyable! You are welcome to come and see the European Day of Languages display to see photos and examples of what the children made.                                                                                                                            Don’t forget to complete your European Day of Languages Passport and enter it for the prize        competition!

F2 made Gelato a la vaniglia e lamponi - buonissimo! They also sampled the deliziosa Pizza ai funghi from the ‘Pizzeria Perkins’ !
