BookBench Update
Thu 09 Apr 2020We have been making progress on sculpture 2 this week…
This is our 'Proud To BEE Different' BookBench, inspired by the BEE values of our school. 🐝
Lots of our pupils created design ideas for the sculpture expressing that it should represent our school and the local community. This design brings their ideas to life combining notions of uniqueness and care for the natural world. It features individually decorated bees, our bee value handprints and rare bee orchids which are found within our locality.
A big thank you to all the children who have contributed to this design! Your design ideas and application of super delicate brush work has created amazingly intricate details! Well done everyone! -
BookBench Update
Mon 06 Apr 2020LDCS entered a design competition to win a BookBench sculpture to decorate with designs inspired by journeys, adventure and freedom - themes all found in a good book! The sculptures will feature in an art trail across Nottinghamshire.
Take a look at our BookBench journey so far…
Sculpture 1 entitled ‘Adventure Is Just A Page Away…’
This sculpture was inspired by a love of reading for pleasure. It is a celebration of the freedom that reading brings, creating space in our minds for creativity, happiness and relaxation. It represents how, with the turn of every page, we get lost in words finding ourselves meandering into adventures and magical worlds.Featuring a landscape of rolling hills below a blue sky in which colourful kites dance freely, this design idea was adapted from a competition entry by one of our Year 6 pupils.
Once the trail has ended, the BookBenches will return to school. What an inspirational place to sit and read with school friends! -

North Notts Journey BookBenches
Thu 12 Mar 2020Bumble Bee Class have shared stories together, testing out our North Notts Journey BookBenches this morning. We are looking forward to seeing them decorated with our journeys themed designs soon! 🐝😊
About…
North Notts BID is working with creative producers Wild in Art to create an art trail in the summer of 2020. The event will feature 40 BookBench sculptures featuring individually designed artworks.
We entered a design competition to win a BookBench sculpture to decorate with designs inspired by journeys, adventure, freedom and pioneering spirit - themes all found in a good book! At LDCS we were lucky enough to win two BookBenches!!
The BookBenches will be displayed in high profile indoor and outdoor locations to form an art trail from mid-June for 10 weeks, where they will be available for the public to view and access and use as benches throughout the summer. Once the trail has ended, our BookBenches will return to school to be displayed in our library and playground. How exciting!

Imagination Gaming
Mon 04 Mar 2019Year 4 enjoyed a day full of games today! Chris from Imagination Gaming visited us and brought a bank of amazing educational games with him for us to play. Specific children played different games and then spent time teaching others to play. As part of the day, we learned to play strategically as well as how to play well with others in our class. A great day for all of us and now a bank of games which we can use in class and at our board game club :) -
