Delicious Christmas Lunch with Silver Service

The children and staff were treated to a truly delicious Christmas lunch.  Many thanks go to our cook, Lisa and the kitchen staff who prepared 204 meals; our wonderful PTFA and helpers who dressed the dining hall so beautifully and of course to the midday supervisors .  All the teaching staff joined in the ‘silver service’ of the meals and helped make this a lovely experience for us all.

Christmas Eve Comes Early in Year 2

Year 2 experienced an early Christmas Eve today.  They came  snuggled in their  pyjamas ready to hear some lovely Christmas stories read to them, watch a film together as a class ‘family’, drink lots of hot chocolate and take part in Christmas activities together.  They were very vigilant, looking out for Santa and listening for his sleigh bells.  Did anyone spot him?

Year 2 have also been bringing in their favourite books to read to the class as the second part of their reading challenge. We enjoyed listening to them around the Christmas tree.

  • Christmas message

    Tue 18 Feb 2014

I would like to take this opportunity to wish pupils, parents and friends of Langold Dyscarr a very Happy Christmas. We have had a wonderful term with lots of opportunities to celebrate the achievements of the children. The nativity plays were beautiful with so many children taking part and our choir represented the school very well indeed at a number of festive events. Christmas at Langold is always a really special time and one of the highlights was our Christmas dinner day. The PTA did a fabulous job of decorating the halls to create a special atmosphere and there were lots of adults on hand to wait on the children. As ever, the PTA have done a superb job to make our school feel special at Christmas – they decorated throughout the school, organised a mountain of nativity costumes and ran a raffle at the same time. I don’t know what we would do without them.

I also appreciate the generosity and support we get from parents. I know that it means a great deal to the children to see family members present at our events and Langold certainly does this in style. You will be pleased to hear that we raised around £550 from the sale of tickets from the nativity plays which we will use to buy rewards and treats for the children. Thank you very much indeed.

Now that the parties and festivities are over in school I look forward to seeing all the children again in January – I am sure that every one of them will get a visit from Santa for being good all year!

Wishing you a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Video Message from Santa for Year 2

Year 2 received a video message from Santa at the North Pole.  He said he was impressed that the whole class is working hard and to keep it up.  He even showed us a photograph of us from  our trip.  Fingers crossed we all get a delivery on Christmas Eve!.

        Christmas Events

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support with our Christmas productions this year. As ever, I am very proud of the children’s achievements and I know from seeing your faces that as well as being proud of your own child, you shared my feeling that the school continues to demonstrate all that is good about Langold.

This year four separate plays took place to ensure that the maximum number of   children could be offered a speaking part. Please be assured that the funds raised from ticket sales goes towards pupil-focused activities such as visiting theatre companies and we also use the funds to buy prizes and rewards for the children. The PTFA do a marvellous job to supply as many costumes as possible for the plays but as you can imagine, with 250 children to clothe we rely on the support of parents to make these events happen. Thank you to those who supplied a costume, it is much appreciated.

The Christmas raffle will be drawn next week and as you will know the funds raised from it will be used to buy a further set of Kindle Fire HDs. The children’s love of  reading and interest in books has really developed since the PTFA donated the Kindles and they are keen to supply more. Thank you once again.

This week, further Christmas activities have taken place with the choir participating in the Portland carol service at St Anne’s church. Once again, the children sang beautifully and reduced me to tears! They will also be singing at St. Luke’s Church, Langold on Friday at 4:00pm if you would like to join us for a traditional carol service.

With Christmas almost upon us, our final week in school will bring Christmas lunch on Tuesday with almost 200 children and staff taking part and then each class will have a special Christmas party.

Once again, may I thank you for your continuing support.

    Anti-Bullying Week

The whole school had an excellent time marking Anti-Bullying week.  They took part in a variety of activities including thinking about  e-safety and cyber bullying, making friendship fortune tellers, completing an Anti-Bullying graffiti wall and much more.  Thank you to all those parents who have sent their questionnaires back to school.
