F2 - What A Busy Week!
Sat 04 Jul 2015F2 - What a Busy Week!
The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch has inspired us in lots of different ways, this week. We have been very creative making and painting lighthouses on the creative table, as well as making our Tap Tap pictures. We used speech bubbles to write out what Hamish, the lighthouse keeper’s cat, might be thinking when he was in the basket and of course we have been writing about the story in different ways: writing about the pictures; labelling the foods in the story, and drawing story maps. We are getting so good at writing that some of us have become sentence doctors! Our doctors use their literacy skills (with the help of assistants from the rest of the class) to make sentences better! We put our number skills to the test too, when we had to arrange ourselves in a human number line — numbers are fun! Keeping cool was no problem for us this week - we made shelters outside and went inside our little tents and what better way to spend the hottest afternoon of the year than to sit under the shade of a tree singing songs and listening to a lovely story! Caterpillar Music was all about sporting prowess. We practised long jump, karate, football, archery, gymnastics, ball skills and best of all, tug-of-war - the girls were the undisputed champions—twice!!!(No wimpy girls in our school!) We were in awe of Alison, from Caterpillar Music, as she described her attempt at scaling the tallest dam in Switzerland - we are so proud of her, she is an inspiration to us all! What an exciting week— more exciting learning and fun to come!
Gentle reminder - in the hot weather please ensure your child is protected from the sunshine with cream and a sun hat. If you have any spare sun hats you could donate to school we would be very grateful.

F1 - New Experiences!
Sat 04 Jul 2015In F1 this week our older children, who will be moving to F2 in September, enjoyed their first school lunch. They coped really well—they were AMAZING! They all tried pizza, vegetables, potato croquettes and apple crumble and custard. Yum yum!! After the delicious lunch, the children went outside to play on the BIG playground. Mrs Fenton and Mrs Woodhead were so proud of you! We have started our new topic, Pirates (Pieces of eight, pieces of eight). We love playing with the pirate ship and the mask. We have been using our fine motor skills to practise cutting along lines—it can be very tricky!! We have also emptied our potato tub to see how potato tubers are formed - we are learning so much!

Year 5A - Fascinating Rivers
Fri 03 Jul 2015Year 5A - Fascinating Rivers
Year 5A have been working hard on their topic, Rivers - Carter has produced an outstanding piece of work—what do you think of it?
Fascinating Rivers
Welcome to an astonishing report all about rivers. Once you read this, you might study rivers or never have to ask another question ever again, unless you don’t read of course. If you already know most things about rivers you’ll find out more.
Beautiful beginning
Each river has a source that is often located in the high mountains. The water on earth today is the same as the water that was created when earth was created millions of years ago. Rivers flow naturally downstream of the mountains because of gravity.
River is formed
As the small trickle runs downhill more water joins the river and this water erodes a path towards the bottom of the mountain. All the material is deposited to the sides at the bottom or in the middle to form a small island.
River is formed
There are three different parts of the river cycle beginning middle mouth. The beginning of the river is where the source starts and the stream. The middle is called the middle course. It’s where you find the flood plains; the floodplains are the sides of the river. The mouth is where all the water rushes to the sea or ocean. Just a little bit can end up a lot.
A meander is a really big bend in the river. It will make a route of another way then join back to the original route. Meanders are huge bends in rivers they can be big or small but not to small.
Thanks for reading my outstanding report! I told you it was astonishing and you properly know everything about rivers.
