Year 4/4A - Fun Learning in Sherwood Forest!

Year 4 had a fantastic day at Sherwood Forest on Tuesday. We learnt lots of new (and some gruesome!) facts about the life and death of Robin Hood and about interesting events that happened in Sherwood Forest many years ago. We got the chance to hold a real sword!

As well as looking at many other artefacts, we examined bows and arrows. In the afternoon we had an amazing time den building. We had to draw on many skills such as: problem solving, listening, team work, co-operation, resilience and designing - to name a few. Our guide tested our dens by throwing water at them - as you can imagine some of us got quite wet! But we can always find ways to reflect and improve on our building and design.

It was a brilliant day full of fun learning activities. Our children were a credit to our school. Well done, Year 4!

  • What Makes Britain Great?

    What Makes Britain Great?

As a class, Year 6A have been talking about British Diversity and what an amazing county we live in. We have been learning about tolerance and mutual respect of others. (Not just religious but also life style choices.) Rule of law (why laws exist, why they are important and what can happen if they are broken.) Liberty ( we can leave the country to travel, we can hold any job we put our mind to and we are educated in a safe environment.) Democracy ( Freedom of choice, no decisions are made by one person, majority rules.)

Here are a few examples of why Year 6A think Britain is Great:

    Why is Britain Great?

Britain is great because we have a free NHS care and the support from doctors and nurses. We get free education and are all entitled to learn in a safe, caring environment. We get the opportunity to vote in decisions about our country and are innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. We live in tolerance and mutual respect of different religions and cultures. (Lucie Martin)

    Why is Britain Great?

We live in a mostly peaceful country and respect other’s religion, skin tone, language or life style choices. We get the opportunity to vote on important decisions that effect our country and lives such as leaving or staying in the European Union. We have some of the fairest laws in the world and are innocent until proven guilty. (Aimee Stephenson)

    Why is Britain Great?

Britain is great because we have the right to freedom. We are allowed to make choices that affect us. We are tolerant of different religions and males and females are equal in worth. We marry for love rather than arrangement and gain a good, free education to help us get better jobs later in life. (Kaceylou Harrison)

    Year 4 - Poets

Year 4A have written some amazing poems based on our new topic - Robin Hood. We looked at the painting 'Robin Hood' by Daniel Maclise and used this for inspiration. Firstly, we collected a word bank based on the 5 senses, we came up with some interesting vocabulary! We then looked at a range of poems to decide on a style. We used rhyming couplets because we found these to be effective. We really enjoyed creating our poems, and hope that you enjoy reading some of them too:

F1 - Rising to the Challenge!

Our new F1s rose to the Foundation challenge! What a fabulous week we have had meeting all our new F1 friends! We have had 14 in total and already they have become immersed in F1 life! On Monday, our new afternoon children were introduced to our Suretots programme and loved climbing on the apparatus, bouncing on the trampoline and balancing on the beam. Esmee was really good at moving her body to our favourite song (well Miss Frisby’s really!) ‘Tumbletots are great!’ Lucie was able to copy simple repeated rhythms using the tap sticks, which is really tricky! On Tuesday, we ventured into the woods, but before we even got there we had to dodge all the mole hills on the school field. Err stop Miss Frisby! Did you say dodge? As if we would ever dodge a great pile of soil! We are F1 explorers and so we all decided to walk through them, jump on them and generally have a jolly good time getting our lovely new, sparkly wellies very muddy. Annabelle loved them! All the children passed the F1 ‘get as muddy as you can’ test! In the woods we found a big log, but of course it wasn’t a boring old log. No! We decided it was a car and had to take it in turns to sit on it. Zac was in his element and off he went to the shops! Miss Frisby gave him some money and told him to buy her some biscuits, which he thought was hilarious! Miss Frisby thought she heard the Gruffalo in the distance and Isabella told her all about him and what he looked like as well as the Big Bad Mouse. It’s a good job we knew what to expect and were prepared if we met him! Saphia spotted an arrow on the tree and we were all intrigued as to where it would lead! Jordii made lovely music by hitting two stones together and Annalise was really impressed! Dakota was interested in the worm which Logan found, but wasn’t brave enough to hold it- I’ll give her a couple of weeks and she will! Wednesday was Caterpillar Music- are you exhausted yet?! We looked at our picture that we are studying for art. It’s called The Banquet and it’s painted by a man called Sir James Dromgole Linton - we did lots of activities around the theme. We made our own courtyard and danced inside it using silk scarves. Mykala really enjoyed using the boxes to make the courtyard and Theo was amazing at spinning round to the music. At the end, we had lots of instruments to play and George liked the shakers but Tommy was more interested in the Maracas. Finally, the bubble machine was switched on and Mitchell liked watching them float through the air, but Daisy was more interested in popping them! What a wonderful week, F1 - all the F1 newbies have settled in beautifully. My big F2s have also made me so proud because they looked after their new friends, showed them the right thing to do and were very patient and kind, but I never doubted they would be for a minute! We can’t wait for next week!
