F1 - On The Nursery Rhymes Trail At Southwell Minster
Fri 09 Oct 2015F1 - On The Nursery Rhymes Trail At Southwell Minster
Our trip to Southwell Minster to participate in The Nursery Rhymes Trail was so much fun. We had to hunt for a bag of clues and think about what rhyme the clues could be from.
We also found other clues hidden in the Minster like carved mice and fish in the pews, a sheep in the stained glass window and a king and queen carved in the stone work. What rhymes could they be from?
We had a snack and a drink whilst having a story. Then we participated in a craft activity making stained glass windows. They were fantastic! We had lunch together and played some parachute games. The rain had stopped by this point so we explored the Education Garden. We found some lovely autumn leaves.
Then it was home time and there were lots of tired children who fell asleep as soon as the bus departed the Minster. What a lovely day!
This week we have been learning the nursery rhyme about Two Little Dicky Birds called Peter and Paul. We made a wall outside for them to sit on and acted it out. Then we changed the names of the birds to our names!
We have also been busy making repeated patterns outside using different shapes. We had to predict what shape would come next in our pattern. We have some very clever children who could predict the next shape!
In Caterpillar Music we had so much fun in the Magical Land of Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales!
Thanks for your Harvest homework challenges so far. They are fabulous and will be displayed in the Unit.

F2 - A Patchwork of Colourful Learning!
Fri 09 Oct 2015F2 - A Patchwork of Colourful Learning!
What a colourful Friday. It was great to see everyone in their favourite coloured t-shirts. We looked like a patchwork class which was a good way to lead into our Elmer week. We had a letter from Elmer asking us for help to tell him what colours he is. We have also had a go at retelling the story using stick puppets and colouring in lots of beautiful patterns. Elmer is different and we all talked about what makes us special. There were lots of lovely ideas, from what we look like to the pets we have. Elmer sent us ‘Thank you’ sweets for our hard work.
In gymnastics, we practised a dish arch– no hands and feet allowed on the floor. It looked very tricky but the children were amazing.
We took part in a hospital role play. Miss Hopkinson brought in a real stethoscope for us to listen to our hearts. We had a good run outside to see if our hearts beat faster.
Congratulations to the children who have collected 4 reading stamps. They received a certificate and a prize. Please keep up the good reading! In Caterpillar Music we had a fantastic time in the Magical Land of Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales!

Year 5 - Unusual Sightings in Langold!
Fri 09 Oct 2015Year 5 - Unusual Sightings in Langold!
Year 5 have been writing reports about unusual sightings that they have seen over Dyscarr Wood. Kian Bennett has written a fantastic report explaining this. Here is an extract, what do you think to it?Many sightings have been reported of unusual activity in Langold, Nottinghamshire. The first sighting was brought to the attention of the police at 9.30 am, last night. Three school children described the sighting as 'frightening! On Monday morning at 10.30 am at Dyscarr Woods, there was a big flash of lights' explained Lucy, aged 9.
Police are investigating what the big flash could be. An eye witness reported whilst walking his dog ' A green, slimy figure appeared and I was scared'. Police say stay inside until it is safe.Well done, Kian!
A group of children from years 1, 2 and 3 have begun to participate in a karate lunchtime club. They are learning new skills with Sensei Tony and Sensei Julie from Hidden Dragon. Some children have achieved tags after only 2 weeks of training! Well done and keep it up!
