Zak's Parkrun
Sat 02 Apr 2016Hello Mrs Neal and Mrs Hall,
We would like to let you know how Zak’s run went. He did absolutely fantastic. He was really excited to run and couldn’t wait to start the race. Even though he only practiced once (about 1km around the village) Zak would not stop. Unfortunately, he had to stop because of his daddy, who suffered problems with his knee. If it wasn’t for his daddy’s knee he would have run the whole 5km without stopping. He was helping his daddy going through his bad time saying:
“Daddy, we cannot stop. Whatever happens we have to reach the finish line. All those people sponsored me and I cannot let them down. Come on daddy, don’t give up!”
With his determination he most definitely helped his daddy finish it. And he was so much faster than him! After the race Zak was buzzing so much he said:” I could do another lap!” His daddy could not say the same thing!
Straight after the race he got a large Easter egg as a reward and lots of cheering. He and his daddy were 226 and 227 out of 249 runners and Zak finished 10th out of 11 children age under 10 ( but the rest of the children had at least 3 runs and 2 of them ran 17 times!). The overall time for Zak was 36.49 minutes. The main thing was that Zak really enjoyed his run and was proud of himself, even though he was very modest about it and did not boast once.
We would like to thank Mrs Neal for your kind donation - we have found the pennies and added it to his charity fund. We would also like to thank the lady at Dyscarr reception (one of the Park run’s marshals) for a very generous donation. They both helped to raise whooping £200.59 (Zak’s target was £100).
The English radio station in Spain dedicated the show to Zak and they did mention him a few times wishing him best of luck.
Thank you again for all your support
Kind regards
Zak’s Mummy and Daddy
Wow, Zak, you showed real LDCS
resilience and determination!
We are very proud of YOU!

F1 - Once Upon a Time…
Sat 02 Apr 2016F1 - Once Upon a Time…
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin... Once upon a time there was a teacher called Miss Frisby who worked in a wonderful school in the Land of Langold. She taught lots of gorgeous children with the help of many wonderful teachers including Mrs Fenton, Miss Hopkinson, Mrs P and Mrs Parker. Her children’s lives were full of exciting learning and they always had a smile on their face. One day Miss Frisby thought: We need something outside to help our children use language to recreate roles and experiences in their play. Something that is really exciting… something that links into our Tree-mendous Tuesday adventures… something truly amazing! Then she had an idea! A mud kitchen! But alas, they cost lots of golden coins and Miss Frisby didn’t know how they would ever save enough to buy the magical kitchen. Then she had an idea! I wonder if we could fund raise with the help of the wonderful Foundation parents in the Kingdom of Langold, maybe then we could reach our goal. So the children put on their wellies and walked hundreds of miles on a sponsored welly walk and they raised enough golden coins to buy one!! Miss Frisby began to look for the perfect kitchen but the search proved very difficult. But one day, on her walk to the library with the children and some of their lovely parents, a Fairy Godmother appeared. It was Sofia Simpson’s Mum, Tracy, and she said. ‘Don’t worry Miss Frisby, I know someone who will be able to help you, my husband Prince Rob.’ Then our very own resident Fairy Godmother Mrs Bacon said, ‘We have some pallets at home that you could use!’ and her husband Prince Pete chopped them up for us. Prince Rob did an amazing job and a truly magnificent kitchen was made. It was the finest kitchen in all of the land. And the children had a resource that fed their already active imagination, developed the use of expressive language, helped them explore texture, weight and capacity and supported their mark making. And they all lived happily ever after and were covered in mud!
The end.
Thank you to everyone that made this happen and all your donations of utensils! You are amazing!
We also had an amazing Tree-mendous Tuesday adventure featuring lots of learning like measuring puddles with a stick, making friends with worms, finding treasure, spotting Gruffalo footprints and finding a new path! But you need to go on our blog to find out more and of course leave us a comment!

F2 - Easter Bunny Visitor and a SUPER Week!
Sat 02 Apr 2016F2 - Easter Bunny Visitor and a SUPER Week!
F2 had a very special visitor last week, the Easter Bunny. Miss Hopkinson found a note on her chair from the Easter Bunny saying he had dropped his basket full of eggs in the F2 playground; he asked if we could help him find all the eggs he had lost. Amongst the many eggs were 2 very special golden ones. Of course F2 were more than keen to go on an Easter Egg Hunt. Lente and Riley were the lucky children who found the Golden Eggs and were rewarded with two chocolate eggs, while the rest of the children received a chocolate egg each. We love the Easter Bunny!
This week in F2 has been SUPER in many ways - our theme has been Superheroes! The children have become designers of Superhero badges. First of all the children designed their badges choosing which materials, shapes and colours to use. Then they made their badge, evaluated it and made improvements, if necessary. We have some super examples. Making the badges helped us with our 2D and 3D shape recognition—we have been doing lots of work with 2D and 3D shapes this week. Do you know the properties of a cuboid or hexagonal prism? Just come and ask F2 if you are unsure!
We have had a writing competition this week between the boys and girls - they were challenged to access independent writing activities and use key words and sounds that they have learned in their phonics groups—we have had some fantastic pieces of writing! So far, the girls are leading in the challenge, but watch this space, the boys are not far behind!
Our Culture Bags continue to bring lots of surprises and the children have been able to share what is an important part of their culture with their friends; there have been so many lovely surprises!
