  • Exciting Times in FSU!

    Sat 24 Jan 2015

The F1 environment has undergone an exciting and  ‘wild’ transformation. The children are loving, and sharing, their  environment with The Gruffalo and The Wild Things’! They even have a Where The Wild Things Are boat— WOW!

We love to feed their imagination.

F2 have also been very busy. The F2 ‘giraffes’ had a lovely walk to the library—they walked so quickly that they arrived before opening time! However, Miss Frisby treated them to a cake while they waited!

In the classroom, the story of The Gruffalo has inspired some beautiful literacy. Piper wrote a fantastic sentence about ‘scrambled snake’ - amazing, Piper! In Caterpillar Music we met the characters from The Gruffalo story -  some of us found it very life-like indeed!!!

Later on, we had even more fun playing outside and experiencing the properties of ‘lovely, cold snow!’ - working together to make a snowman!

Gruffalo Crumble and Owl Ice Cream -Yum!

We had lots of fun making Gruffalo Crumble - we have included the recipe so you can make it at home, too. We read the recipe together and followed the instructions—we spotted all the imperative verbs (bossy words)!                                                                                                                     Our portion of ‘Gruffalo’ even included teeth!! Can you spot them?

    Delicious with ‘Owl Ice Cream’!

  • Year 1 Visit Yorkshire Wildlife Park

    Sat 24 Jan 2015

Braving the cold, snowy, wet and windy weather, Year 1, as part of their topic work on the Arctic, visited The Yorkshire Wildlife Park. They walked for miles using ‘power’  walking to keep warm. Not all of the animals wanted to venture out on such a cold day, but amongst the animals they did see were the giraffes, lions, lemurs and of course the star of the show, Victor the polar bear. The children were fascinated by him, but he did not seem very interested in them and just carried on chewing the grass! As well as visiting the different animal enclosures the children had a classroom session where they learnt about the polar bear’s habitat, fur and why it is an                                     endangered species. Of course, we were very proud of our children’s exemplary behaviour. Well done, Year 1!

  • Year 5A Put Their Literacy Skills to the Test

    Sat 24 Jan 2015

It's been another great week in class 5A. We have been working really hard in literacy focusing on our use of description and punctuation. In Science, we conducted an investigation into the reaction caused by mixing vinegar and bicarbonate of soda and then replaced the vinegar with lemon juice - the outcome was very messy! It was Martin Luther King day on Monday and the children have been considering what their own dreams are in PSHE
