School Dog

This is Nala, who began to train as our school dog from being only 6 weeks old, she has inherited the role of school dog from Topper since he retired.  She is Topper's grandaughter.  Her name in Africa means 'Honey Bee', so we are really pleased with the choice.

Nala comes into school three times a week and she really enjoys it.

She is a 2 year old Golden Retriever.  She lives with our Headteacher Mrs Fotheringham and comes to school during the week.  She stays in Mrs Fotheringham's Office unless she is busy doing work around school.  Nala is always accompanied by an adult when she is working. Her work involves listening to readers, talking to children and supporting children in the classroom with their work.

She can help our children and staff in many ways during the school day :-

  • Build up confidence with reading
  • Improve self-esteem
  • Improve behaviour and concentration
  • Develop a sense of responsibility
  • Support children with their emotions
  • Children have opportunity to train her and walk her at break and lunch times
  • Improve staff well-being

For more information about Nala in school during the day please read our Policy
