  • Another Fun and Busy Week in FSU

Another Busy and Fun Week in Foundation

This week, in numeracy, we are looking at recognising and ordering numbers.
Miss Frisby had lots of washing to hang out and she wanted all  Foundation 2 to help her, so she gave them all an item of clothing to hang out to dry. They all had numbers on so we had to work out which one came first and work along our washing number line until all the clothes were hung out in the right order.
Then she asked them to point to a number on the line and tell her the number that would be ‘one more than’. They were all super stars and could even tell her the number that would be ‘2 more than’! Fabulous work Foundation!
Foundation have been out in the woods this week and they have been making clay heads to fit in with their story of

Little Red Riding Hood. They all had a ball of clay and had to put it on a stick and look for natural items in the wood to stick on it to make it look wolf-like. We used acorns and stones for eyes, leaves for ears and moss for teeth.'Grandma what big ears you have' - indeed!
We enjoyed looking at the photos of our grandparents and talking about all the fantastic times we have with them and sharing the stories our mums and dads have told us about them.

    Playground Ambassadors

Our new challenge is called Sevens. In this game you throw a tennis ball against a wall and do different actions for each step. The steps get harder as you go along. It's hard at first, but keep practising until you can do it right through without stopping.
SEVENS: Throw the ball against the wall and catch it without dropping it. Do this seven times in a row.

SIXES: Throw the ball so it bounces off the ground and hits the wall, then catch it without letting it hit the ground again. Do this six times in a row.
FIVES: Pat-bounce the ball on the ground five times without stopping.
FOURS: Hold your leg up and throw the ball underneath it so it bounces off the wall. Catch it     without letting it touch the ground. Do this four times.
THREES: Throw the ball against the wall, and as it comes back pat-bounce it three times. Do this three times.
TWOS: Throw the ball against the wall. Clap your hands in front, behind, then in front of you again and catch the ball without letting it touch the ground. Do this twice.
ONES: Throw the ball against the wall, turn around on the spot and catch the ball as it bounces off the wall, without letting it touch the ground. Do this once.                                                                   Our final challenge is to learn 5 playground games and share these with 5 other children in our school.

    Shrek’s Snake Infested Swamp!

Year One returned from playtime to find that Shrek’s swamp had been infested with snakes! We had to measure the length of the snakes using different units of measure, and take photographs as evidence. I hope the King sends somebody to get rid of them soon...

Rio, Our Sponsor Puppy, Inspires Year 3/4

Mrs Bellingham has kindly sponsored a guide dog for class 3/4A. His name is Rio and he is a golden Labrador. We have received our latest update from him.                                                                         Julia is the name of his puppy walker. Rio is the first puppy that Julia has puppy walked, and they've been hard at work learning all the basics together. "Rio has already learnt 'sit', 'stay', 'down' and 'wait' which he picked up really quickly," Julia explained. This is fantastic! Rio will have lots of commands to learn as he trains to become a guide dog, so seeing that he's a fast learner is a really positive sign.   Please look on our class blog to read what adventures our teddy, ‘Rio the blogging dog’, has been up to with our ‘Stars of the Week’. Rio would love you to leave a comment!
