    Dear Parents/Carers,

Unfortunately having assessed the site today, I have had to make the extremely difficult decision to delay the opening of school once more to Thursday 3rd December.  If you have been past school over the weekend, you will have seen that Portakabin have been working hard  to install the temporary accommodation but at present the site is still too unsafe for me to allow children and parents to access the building. This is mainly due to damage to block paving, gate safety and the general maintenance of the temporary area. This is the last thing I wanted to do and I fully understand that you will be disappointed and frustrated by this but I know you will understand the need for the children to be perfectly safe whilst they are here at school.

We will continue provide support sessions at the village hall on Tuesday and Wednesday so please drop in if your child needs any help with their work. I do have plans to make up for some of the children's lost education and I will update you on this once we are back to school.

I am once again sorry for the inconvenience that this is causing you as parents and the disruption to the children's education and I thank you for your continued support at this difficult time.

    Yours sincerely

    Gemma Bradford

Year 6  - A Credit to Our School!

Year 6 have been an absolute credit to us all. They have been working very hard in their  new classroom at Outwood Academy  Portland.  The Year 6 staff have been very impressed with their attitude, behaviour and great efforts. Outwood’s Assistant Principal, Emma Ferrarelli, emailed Miss Bradford:

“ It has been a pleasure hosting them :). Our staff have enjoyed having your Y6s in the academy  and your staff deserve a pat on the back. They have ensured disruption to learning is minimal and the couple of lessons I have seen have been brilliant!”

Our children have certainly been putting into practice our LDCS Golden Values:

    * Being polite to one another

    * Always show kindness to others

    * Have respect for people and our environment

    * Listen carefully at all times

    * Always show that you are eager to learn

    * Always be outstanding and show resilience

    * Try to help wherever possible

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I'd just like to give you an update on the progress at school. We are currently still on track for opening on Tuesday.

The Portakabins will be delivered and installed on Saturday, we are just hoping the winds that are expected don't hamper the delivery in any way. The finishing touches will be done to those over the weekend and on Monday. They will be up and running on Tuesday. We still need time to prepare the year 6 room so the plan is still for those pupils to start back on Wednesday and stay at Outwood Portland until then.

The temporary fire alarm will be put in place on Monday. Notts County Council are confident there shouldn't be any delays with installing this system. However, no plan is ever perfect so please just bear in mind that if there are technical difficulties, it could delay opening.

Now for a few house keeping items:

    1. The school office will be situated in a Portakabin at the front of school, outside year 4 and 5. You will be able to access the building via a walkway separate to the playground.

    2. Children will line up in their usual places apart from Mrs Bradley's class, who will line up with year 4/5 and Mrs Bailey's/Fearnley's class, who will line up outside their Portakabin situated across from the admin one.

    3. F1 pupils and parents will not be able to use the usual entrance.  Access will be gained by walking through the playground and around the MUGA. The teachers will be at the main gates to meet you on Tuesday and walk around with you. They will bring the children back to the main gates after morning session and will return to collect afternoon pupils. Parents will be able to collect their children from the Unit in an afternoon by walking through the playground and around the MUGA.

    4. Any pupils who are given medication in school will need to bring new packets to the school office as the ones in school were damaged in the fire.

    4. Breakfast club will start again on Wednesday morning. Children will make their way to the office Portakabin and will be collected from there by Mrs Silk.

    5. We anticipate after school clubs will start again week beginning: 7.12.15

    6. Thankfull,y we are able to use our school kitchen and small hall so school dinners will be available as usual.

    7. Please be aware that although we have had professional cleaners in school, at times there is sometimes a smell coming from the damaged area. I'd appreciate it if you could warn your children about this. I will also explain this to the children in assembly. Once the damaged area has been fully cleared by the contractors then the smell should subside.

    8. We will be having fire practices on Tuesday and Wednesday so i'd appreciate it if you could also warn your children about these. I don't want to panic any children but I do want them to  know their quickest way out whilst some sections of the school are out of action.

I think that covers everything for now. However, if you do have any questions then please contact the school via email: office@langold-dyscarr.notts.sch.uk  I can then include the answers to these questions in an update on Monday.

Thanks again for your continued patience. I look forward to seeing you and your children next week.

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Having met with Notts County Council, contractors and insurers today at school, I can now confirm that school will reopen on Tuesday 1st December. We originally hoped to start back on the Monday but Portakabin require an extra day to install the temporary buildings on site for Year 6, the admin team and extra toilets. Doing so whilst children are on site would pose a health and safety risk to pupils. This date will only alter if there are extenuating circumstances.

Year 6 will continue to access their education at Outwood Academy Portland and will return to Langold a day after everyone else on Wednesday 2nd December. This will give staff time to ensure the classrooms are fully ready for their return.

I realise it has been a difficult time for children and families for a number of reasons. I am sure you are looking forward to getting your children back to school, as are all of the staff who have been working hard each day to ensure the children's return will be as normal as possible. When the children return they will have missed 13 days of education and we are currently discussing ways in which we can make up for some of this time; we will update you on this as soon as we have firm plans.

As the Year 6 corridor and reception are the areas of school with fire and smoke damage, there will be some changes to how we function in the building. Foundation and the KS1 corridor will function as normal whilst the KS2 corridor has some changes. We have had to block off access to the Year 6 corridor so the only rooms now available in that area of school are from Miss Lynam's room down to the KS2 main entrance. My office is now located on the KS2 corridor in the small room across from the Happy Hub. Miss Bradley's classroom will be what was the Drama room and Mrs Bailey/Fearnley's class will be in the Portakabin located on the playground at the front of school.

Thank you once again for your patience and continued support over the past two weeks. I was delighted that so many of you were able to collect the work that we provided. Please remember that if your children need support with any of the it this week, you can pop into the village hall.

I look forward to seeing you all next Tuesday.

    Yours sincerely
