Miss Davison and Mrs Mallaby welcome you to Year4/5
Miss Davison and Mrs Mallaby are looking forward to welcoming pupils in September for an exciting Autumn 1 Term. Please note for this half-term, the Year 4/5 school day starts at 8:55am and ends at 3:10pm and pupils will enter and leave through the fire door outside of Mrs Fotheringham's office. Due to the current restrictions, parents are not allowed on the school site. However, please do not hesitate to contact me through Class Dojo for any queries.
Lockdown and Home Learning
As we are again in Lockdown, some of the children in Year 4/5 will be required to work at home. I have put below an advised timetable for the day. The mornings will start at 8.55. The day will start with a RIC (reading comprehension), a quick spelling practice and then a Mathematics lesson. A break between 10.15 and 10.30 is recommended and then this will be followed by an English Lesson (split into 2 parts), a Reading comprehension and a Word of the Day. Lunch is recommended to take place between 12 and 12.45pm. The afternoon would start with a PE session and then followed by a Topic, RE or PSHE lesson. I have tried to keep the school recommended day as close to the one they are use to at school.
The Power Points for each day will require the children to read through each slide and, where required, to do an activity. Your child can do these activities either on the back of the Power Point handouts or on separate pieces of paper.
Children who will be joining the online session in the morning will need to use the afternoon sessions within the Power Points. They will need to read through these slides and do the activities as they arise.
Please find below, the class timetable for the week, the Autumn Term 1 letter that gives you all the information about what your child is learning this term and the Overview of Learning for the whole year.
Homework with be set every Friday and needs to handed in on the following Monday. Your child will have each week:
Spelling 'Look, Cover, Spell, Check' sheet
(A spelling list in their Reading diaries so they can continue to learn their spellings throughout the week).
In addition to this, to help the children 'catch up' in their reading, there is a set of Reading Challenges that you can do with your child. Please see them below. These can be handed into your teacher when you have completed them.
Also, we are introducing Key Instant Recall Facts or 'KIRFs' which are set to help develop your child's fluency in mathematics. We are asking you to help them learn Key Instant Recall Facts each half term. We expect your child to learn them at least 3 times a week. These lists of KIRFs align with the new curriculum. They are designed to be challenging.
Year 4/5 have P.E. every Monday and Thursday.
Due to the current climate, could your child come in their P.E. kits on that day.
NO jewellery is to be worn during a P.E. Lesson. If your child, is unable to take an item of jewellry off or out, we recommend that they do not wear it on this day.
