The Equality Act 2010 identifies seven ‘protected characteristics’ that it is unlawful to discriminate against by treating someone to whom one or more of the characteristics apply less favourably. They are:
- Religion or belief
- Sexual orientation
- Gender reassignment
- Pregnancy or maternity
The Public Sector Equality Duty requires public bodies to have due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
- Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
when carrying out their activities.
The school’s vision statement refers inclusively to providing our pupils with a 'chance to shine and dare to bee different'.
Our school is committed to equal opportunities and as such we challenge prejudice and inequality in all its forms. We will continue to build on good practice through our Public Sector Equality Duty.
- To diminish the difference between children of vulnerable groups and all pupils.
- To raise attainment of boys in reading and writing.
- To actively support any pupils now or in the future who may be considering gender reassignment.
These objectives have been agreed following analysis of data. Annual updates will publish progress against these targets but in a way that doesn’t identify any children to whom they apply.
