Governor’s Open Day - 7th November 2016

The Governors’ termly Open day was on Monday 7th November 2016. On these days the governors are invited to spend the day in school looking at various aspects of the school’s curriculum, seeing how policies are being implemented and most importantly have a chance to talk to the children and get their views. This term we looked at 3 areas:

  • Marking and Feedback
  • Behaviour management
  • The learning environment

The behaviour we saw across the 2 Key stages was excellent and the behaviour policy seemed to be working, with two TAs on hand to deal with any disruptive children. This seemed to be an improvement from our last Open Day. The children were polite and most seemed engaged and interested .

The classrooms we visited were bright and welcoming and the children we spoke to could tell us how their working wall helped them with their topics and where they could get information they needed. It was interesting to see the progression of independence in the children as we looked at the different year groups.

The marking and feedback in the children’s books that we looked at was consistent and the children could tell us how they had addressed the feedback they had received.

We had a great day, so thanks to Mr Pullin and the staff for being so welcoming.

Jean Norman

GOVERNOR’S  REPORT  2014/2015

As we are beginning a new school year it is time to give a brief outline of some of the work done by the Governing Body during the 2014/2015 school year.

Ms. Evans and Mrs Eastwood resigned during the Spring term, and Mr Wichman left at the end of the summer term when he moved out of the area. At the September 2015 Full Governor meeting we said goodbye to Mrs Beasant  after many years on the Governing Body. We are very grateful to them for all the time and commitment they gave to the school. However we were pleased to welcome to the Governing Body Amy Lawman and Michelle White.

In July we were sorry to have to say goodbye to Mrs Huthart.  The Governing Body would like to thank her for all she helped the school accomplish during her time at Langold,  and wish her every success in her future career.

In addition to attending the termly Full Governing Body Meetings and  the regular ‘Finance and Personnel’ and 'Strategic Development and Pupils’ Sub Committees the Governors have supported the school in many other ways:

  • -  Last November we met with Ofsted Inspectors and were pleased with the Ofsted results.
  • -  There have been Governor Open Days. This is an occasion when Governors spend a day in school and have specific areas of the school day and lessons to observe. We look closely at how the Pupil Premium Grant is spent and it's  impact on the children. We then have the opportunity to discuss our observations with the Head Teacher.
  • -  Many Governors are able to accompany classes on school trips.
  • -  Link Governors have liaised with their subject co-ordinator to understand more how the new curriculum is                         implemented in school. This will change in 2015/16 as Ofsted now prefers Governors to be linked with the different Key Stages and so get a broader view of the school linked with the School Development Plan.
  • -  Governors have shadowed the Headteacher and Deputy as they monitor teaching, again monitoring progress against the School Development Plan.
  • -  Governors have attended various training courses.
  • -  During the summer term Governors were involved in the vigorous recruitment process of appointing a new                   Headteacher, Mr Andrew Pullin was appointed and we look forward to him taking up his new post in January 2016.
  •

We wish the year 6 children who left us in July every success and happiness in the future as they settle into their new schools and move into the next phase of their education.

As a Governing Body we are now look forward to the challenges of 2015/ 2016.

Jean Norman  (Chair of Governors )
